UPDATED CVC INFORMATION:
Dear Transportation Partners:
The California Department of Transportation submitted to the Office of

California Regulatory Notice Register on Friday, October 31, 2008. That
date will begin a 45-day comment period.
For more information, please see the attached cover letter and Notice of
Proposed Rulemaking.

Please feel free to forward this notice to interested parties.
Thank you,

"CAT Engine Warranty Clarification"
A correction to incorrect statements made at the NCFMA meeting in Oakdale at Hi-Tech Fire Apparatus:
"The Standard Warranty period for new engines powering fire trucks, emergency service vehicles, and ambulances is 60 months (5 years) or 200,000 miles (321,869 kilometers), whichever occurs first after date of delivery to the first user".
Additional extended service coverage (ESC) for these apparatus can be purchased or included in your bid requirement for up to 300,000 miles and 120 months (10 years). Some components are limited to 84 months (7 years). Towing coverage is offered for up to 84 months (7 years) or 500,000 miles at $300 with the stipulation that it be towed to the nearest CAT authorized repair/warranty facility.
I apologize for the misinformation of 2 years unlimited mileage stated for on-highway commercial trucks where the question was asked for Fire apparatus.

MORE AERIAL WATERWAY FAILURES:
There have been additional aerial waterway failures reported. 1 was in Southern California.at a 4th alarm fire just a few weeks ago. We will have more details on that soon.
And this week in Minnesota, a ladder truck launched its waterway about 50 feet during a drill. No Firefighters or anyone else was injured or even close to where the waterway landed. They were flowing the waterway when they all heard a sound and the gauges went to zero. The FF's shut the truck down and they saw a debris field....where the waterway landed.
If your FD operates their own aerial or receives aerial services from a neighboring FD, it is critical that the below NIOSH FIREFIGHTER SAFETY DOCUMENT be reviewed immediately.
REMINDER: The responsibility of setting up an aerial including the pinning of the waterway is a skill, one that is trained upon on and can only be preformed by those trained and qualified.
